If you buy regular diesel for your refrigerated trailers, you'll need to request a tax refund from the federal government and the states where you purchased fuel. For example, drivers can type 1 at gas stations and, in the odometer column of your reports, you'll see 1 for all refrigerated fuel transactions. The term “refrigerated fuel” is often used to differentiate between the diesel fuel used for the truck's engine and the fuel used for the refrigerated unit, but chemically they are the same thing. In the case of tractor purchases, the driver can enter the truck's odometer and, in the case of purchases of refrigerated fuel, the driver can enter a designated number that you give him to identify purchases of refrigerated fuel in the reports on his fuel card.
